One good day after another...

We have been having one good day after another, and every day just seems to be getting better and better!  We have been doing our transplant training, training with the pharmacist and working out the logistics...  Carla is right on track to be released on Wednesday, but pharmacy may hold us up until Thursday.  There are a lot of things that need to get done to be discharged.  So, if we have to wait an extra day, we have to wait an extra day.  At least Carla is well and things are progressing in a positive way.

This afternoon and tonight Carla took ALL of her medicine by mouth!  She has quite a list of meds...  twelve at 8:00 a.m., four at 2:00 p.m., two at 4:00 pm, and eight at 8:00 p.m.  And so many of them are because one med that is necessary right now causes the need for another med or supplement.  But, around the six month mark (only five more months to go) Carla's meds will decrease significantly.  The heart is more likely to reject right away following transplant, so they have to ramp up the meds to keep her safe from rejection.  As the time wears on they are able to adjust the meds so that they keep her immune system just suppressed enough to keep her heart safe.

We are feeling super happy and blessed, excited for the future and extremely thrilled to be getting released from the hospital this week.  I can honestly say, we were not expecting recovery from transplant to be as hard as it has been.  Of course, we couldn't have predicted the whole tacrolimus toxicity issue (I don't think I could have cried more tears than I did not knowing if my daughter's mental health would be returning to us).  That being said, I am just so happy to have that part of this behind us.  I feel as though a weight has been lifted.  Our daughter has returned to us and we are so happy and blessed.  Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers... we appreciate them more than you will ever know... and they are working!

Love, Jen
