What Being a Heart Mom Means to Me...

Being a Heart Mom means…
Tears, heartbreak, and the unknown;
Feeling guilty and wondering if there was anything you could have done;
It means sending your child to surgery and praying they will come out alive;
Ventilators, PICC lines, IVs and more meds than you have ever seen;
It means oxygen, saturation levels and clubbed fingers;
Feeding tubes, counting calories and food intake;
It means doctor visits and special formulas;
Conversations with doctors that make you cry for hours;
Days upon months at hospital bedside, making life or death decisions with nothing but hope and prayer to get you through;
It means holding your child down for blood draws or shots, hoping they still love and trust you afterwards;
Watching them hurt and knowing you can’t make it better;
Being a Heart Mom means more emotional pain than you ever thought possible;
And staying strong so that your child isn’t more fearful than they have to be;
Keeping track of meds and treatments, watching your child struggle to breathe;
Hand sanitizer, masks, not going out in public, and people not understanding why you can’t be around them;
It means having a better appreciation for the little things in life and enjoying them more than you ever thought you would;
Being braver than you ever thought you could be;
And, being full of more faith than you ever thought possible;
Being a heart Mom has been the most painful thing I have ever had to endure in my life, but I am thankful that the good Lord saw me fit for this journey.

Love, Jen
